Major Current Research
The discovery of two genetic variants that increase the risk of MS and reveal links to other autoimmune disease.  Further studies into this area will impact on treatment of MS and other autoimmune diseases in the future.

The use of neural stem cells as a possible therapy to repair brains damaged by Parkinson’s disease.

The effects of mental and physical activity on brains affected by schizophrenia, Huntington’s disease and Rett syndrome.  Physical and mental stimulation has been shown to ameliorate symptoms and exert beneficial effects in specific areas of the brain.

The AVERT trial in stroke rehabilitation has suitable patients participating in early rehabilitation routines to increase movement and minimise risk of depression.  The Australian-developed trial has 20 national and international centres.

Had over 300 major discoveries already being used in the health system or under development
